DRDO has invited applications for a short term certificate online course on artificial intelligence and machine learning to be conducted by DIAT

DRDO through its autonomous organization Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) is offering a short term certificate online course on artificial intelligence and machine learning for which interested graduates from any domain can apply. The 12-week long online course will consist of a mix between fundamentals and advanced topics of various domains of artificial intelligence and machine learning. However, applicants are required to have the basic knowledge of algorithms, databases, data structures, modular mathematics, statistics, and probability theory.

The course will be conducted online for two hours a day and five days a week. Applicants will be selected based on their performance in an online test, which will be conducted on 21 February 2021. Registration for the online test, and taking the test is mandatory for prospective students of the course. Once an applicant is selected for the course, based on their performance in the test, they would be required to pay a fee of Rs 15,000 including GST.

What Will Be Taught in the DRDO DIAT Online Course on Artificial Intelligence?

As mentioned before, students will get to learn about fundamentals and advanced topics of various domains of artificial intelligence and machine learning such as:

• Forensic and incident response.
• System programming.
• Reverse engineering and malware analysis.
• Basic and advanced vulnerability analysis, exploit mitigation and penetration testing.
• Tools and techniques for Cyber Security professionals.

Syllabus for the Entrance Test for Admission into the DRDO DIAT Course

Some of the topics based on which questions will be set in the online entrance test are as follows:

• Fundamentals of OS.
• Networking: OSI, TCP/IP, socket programming, win32 socket APIs, server messaging block, application and ports, TLS/SSL including TLS1.3, Firewalls, UTM, routing protocols, routers – core/edge routers, ASN, IPv4/v6.
• System Software: basic knowledge of assembly – x86 instruction set, addressing modes, registers, Main memory space.
• Knowledge of programming language.
• Data structures.

How to Apply for DRDO DIAT Online Course on Artificial Intelligence?

Interested students need to first register for the entrance test, and online applications for the same will be accepted from 29 January to 15 February 2021. The online test will be conducted on 21 February, and the results will be announced on 22 February 2021. Qualified candidates will need to pay the course fee before 26 February 2021. IIT Madras and Forensic Intelligence Surveillance and Security Technologies (FISST) are currently accepting registrations from women for live online courses on data science and big data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cyber security, and software engineering. The courses will begin from 23 August and are being conducted as part of the “Career Back 2 Women” program.

The Career Back 2 Women initiative is for women who wish to return to the IT profession, and hence are looking to upskill themselves through new-age technologies. “This CB2Women program is aimed at the women professionals who had a job in the IT industry, but had to leave the same for some reason including pregnancy or taking care of aged parents / in-laws / sick people, etc. to return to IT career with a bang. FISST has a database with over 4 lakh women, in various domains and expressed willingness to get trained into new areas to return to work & earn,” says the Skill Academy IIT Madras website.

Interested women IT professionals can opt for four online courses namely data science and big data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cyber security, and software engineering and programming tools. However, prior to that, candidates will have to take a mandatory Back to Tech Track (BTCUBE) IT foundation module and pass the exam to get to any of the specializations they opt to get back to the industry.

The courses are open to women with graduation or diploma (10+2+3) from a recognized university (UGC, AICTE, DEC, AIU or State Government) in any discipline. The duration of the course is four weeks and participants will receive a certificate of completion from IIT Madras. After successfully completing the foundation course, women can opt for the advanced course. Job assistance will also be provided to women after completing advanced modules of selected tracks. MORRIS COUNTY — County College of Morris (CCM) has received a $235,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support the launch of a Data Science Certificate program.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there is a high demand for data scientists, whose work involves managing, analyzing and interpreting large sets of data. The BLS 2018 projections indicated that data science analytic jobs will grow by 34 percent by 2026, much faster than the average for most other industries.

The CCM Data Analytics Certificate will consist of five courses for a total of 15 credits that could be completed over the course of two semesters. Students in the program will learn R, Tableau, Python and SQL. The first course Introduction to Data Science will be offered this fall. One of the chief goals of the new program is to increase the number of women and other underrepresented students studying data analytics.

Kelly Fitzpatrick, assistant professor of mathematics at the college, has been spearheading the initiative to provide a pathway to data science careers for Morris County residents and beyond. Prior to joining the CCM faculty, Fitzpatrick worked in hedge fund management as an execution trader with Trigon Investment Advisors. Her other experience includes derivatives and equity strategy at MLC International and credit and global risk management at Lehman Brothers.

“Businesses across all industry sectors, both small and large, are increasingly looking for ways to leverage the era of big-data to make strategic, marketing, sales and other operational decisions,” notes Fitzpatrick. “This grant is a fantastic opportunity to offer students cutting-edge courses for in-demand careers and for the college to be recognized at the national level for advancement in data science education.”

The NSF grant includes funding to support the Women in STEM club at the college, networking and supplemental learning activities for students in the program, and professional development opportunities for faculty.
