IIT Hyderabad has invited online applications from students for a PhD program in its newly launched Department of Artificial Intelligence. The Department of Artificial Intelligence was launched earlier this year to offer BTech, MTech. and PhD programs, as well as a number of minor programs in artificial intelligence.
The IT industry currently requires skilled talent in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics for they are rapidly evolving fields. Candidates skilled in such new-age technologies are often offered a higher salary than their peers.
Along the same lines, IIT Hyderabad through its Department of Artificial Intelligence aims at training students to have a sound understanding of the fundamentals of the theory and practice of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and enable them to become leaders in the industry and academia nationally and internationally.
The AI-related research areas at IIT Hyderabad deal with: deep learning, explainable machine learning, generative models, autonomous vehicles, computer vision, video quality assessment, speech systems, ai for agriculture, Bayesian learning, social media and text analysis, robotics, recommendation systems and data mining, ML in astronomy, inference algorithms, graphical models, big data analysis, computer architectures for AI, AI and internet of things, AI and high performance computing, and natural language processing.
Who can Apply for the Phd in Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad?
Candidates must have completed MTech or equivalent degree in computer science, electronics and communications, or electrical and electronics or related areas. The applicant must have already earned the Master’s degree, or should at least be in the final year of the respective program, which should be completed by the time they join the PhD program.
Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic qualifications, and they would be required to give a written test and/or interview. PhD students will be provided with laboratory facilities equipped with software and hardware (including high-end GPU servers). All the laboratories are provided with internet connectivity.

Interested and eligible candidates need to apply for the PhD at IIT Hyderabad before 14 November 2019 4 pm IST. An online application fee of Rs 300 for general/OBC candidates, and Rs 150 for SC, ST, PWD and female candidates need to be made.
